Had the ultrasound today. Found out we're going to be parents again for real. Oh, and it's gonna be a boy, says the doctor.

Ultrasound
Hey, it's a face!
Either we've never had a good ultrasound before or technology has made some incredible things possible (perhaps both). You can clearly see the eyes, nose, and chin in this image.

The XY factor
This image shows what the doctor says is the determination of the gender. You need to click on the image to view a larger version to see his annotation (The kid's gonna hate me for this when he's 15).
Ultrasound
Not an invertebrate.
The doctor also found proof that our developing fetus has a spine. This announcement was met with tremendous joy by its parents.

A blog may have paid off

A kind online friend named Steve ran across my previous Fozzolog and sent me some e-mail about his own experiences dealing with health insurance when he was jobless when his wife was pregnant. Thanks a million Steve. Here's his message:

We were able to get individual policies for our first child and me. We kept
my wife on the COBRA policy until the baby was born and then had them cancel
the two individual policies and issue a single policy for the family. The
COBRA premium was still nasty, but lower than it would have been for all
three of us.

I don't know if you can get them to do that today (worked great in 1996),
but it's worth a try. Good luck.

The other option (messier) is to form a S corp, hire both of you (making two
employees), and get a group policy. Then she should be covered.

We're looking into both of the suggestions Steve made.
