<title>BYU Linux Club opening social</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2015/10/byu_linux_club_opening_social.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Last night I attended the opening social for &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://linuxclub.byu.edu/&#x22;&#x3E;BYU Linux
Club&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, a new on-campus club at Brigham Young
University in Provo. I was invited to the event by Tyler Johnson, the
club&#x27;s president after he came to a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.plug.org/&#x22;&#x3E;Provo Linux User
Group&#x3C;/a&#x3E; meeting a couple months ago. I told Tyler I&#x27;d
record video of the opening social.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;At the opening social, Tyle&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>An RMS recollection</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2015/5/an_rms_recollection.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Written by Chadd VanZanten about an incident in 1999&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Concerning &#x22;The RMS Run.&#x22; I&#x27;ve forgotten a lot about that night. On purpose. I&#x27;ll tell you what I remember. It will probably contain hyperbole and inaccuracies. I take that back. Not probably. Certainly. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;What I remember best is that RMS was simply unpleasant, supercilious, judgmental and, worst of all, oblivious to his own behavior. B&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Extending software collections</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2013/10/extending_software_collections.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Recent Red Hat Developer Blog articles have explained what Software
Collections are, what they&#x27;re good for, and how you can leverage them to
easily enhance your development environment leveraging the latest and
greatest versions of your favorite programming languages and relational
database backends. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But the software collection packages available for each language comprise
only a subset o&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The &#x3C;code&#x3E;cpanspec&#x3C;/code&#x3E; utility has been an extremely valuable tool for me over the years, especially over the last few months as I&#x27;ve been working on &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora_Contributor_Documentation/1/html/Software_Collections_Guide/index.html&#x22;&#x3E;Software Collections&#x3C;/a&#x3E; for newer versions of Perl in EL5 and EL6. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>My blog under attack</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2013/3/my_blog_under_attack_1.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve been having some issues with my blog site lately. There has been an
ongoing distributed attack from multiple IP addresses on the site. I
haven&#x27;t confirmed this for sure, but it seems to be targeting the
MovableType platform I&#x27;m running, maybe by overwhelming the comment system. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I made the move from a homegrown blogging platform to MovableType several
years ago because I felt MT was doing so&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Using Akonadi to manage Google calendars with KDE&#x27;s Kontact (or KOrganizer)</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2012/6/using_akonadi_to_manage_google_calendars_with_kdes_kontact_or_korganizer.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;KDE users have had a powerful calendar utility at their disposal for quite
a few years with &#x3C;a href=&#x22;KOrganizer&#x22;&#x3E;http://userbase.kde.org/KOrganizer&#x3C;/a&#x3E; which is
a component of the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;Kontact%20suite&#x22;&#x3E;http://userbase.kde.org/Kontact&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;KOrganizer was built for a long time with the ability to use iCal and vCal
data. In recent years, however, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;GoogleCalendar&#x22;&#x3E;http://www.go</description>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The [http://www.catalystframework.org/](Catalyst Framework) for Perl web
development has some powerful special actions that frequently come in
very handy when you&#x27;re building an application, especially one that is
heirarchical in nature as most are.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;An application I am working on right now provides a list of hash references
to the template view for presenting a dynamic crumb trail on the page. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The price of being on the bleeding edge</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2012/5/the_price_of_being_on_the_bleeding_edge.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;A couple of weeks ago was the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.utos.org/&#x22;&#x3E;2012 Utah Open Source Conference&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and I was there as a core team member recording video of various sessions. <title>A new kind of blogging</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2012/5/a_new_kind_of_blogging.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Many blog posts begin with &#x22;It&#x27;s been a long time since I last blogged.&#x22; While that&#x27;s certainly true in my case, I&#x27;ve recently come upon some new technology that may increase the frequency of my blog posts: tablet computers.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I recently picked up a used HP Touchpad from a seller on EBay. The tablet was already loaded with Android 2.3.7 alongside the stock WebOS (which is, of course, kind of a dead&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Automounting Samba shares as a user with Fedora 16</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2011/11/automounting_samba_shares_as_a_user_with_fedora_16.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x27;s been a while since I&#x27;ve blogged anything, let alone anything
technical. So, here goes.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve been making the rounds in our house, upgrading all the desktops to
&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.fedoraproject.org/&#x22;&#x3E;Fedora 16&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. For the most part, this has
been fairly painless. One thing I&#x27;ve noticed, however, is that Fedora 16
changes the default UIDs for new users. In the past, UIDs started at 500.
Now they start a&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>ps - It does one thing and it does it many different ways.</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2011/1/ps_-_it_does_one_thing_and_it_does_it_many_different_ways.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The &#x3C;code&#x3E;ps&#x3C;/code&#x3E; command on Linux/Unix systems (and, yes, that includes Mac OS X) is a command-line utility for displaying information about currently running processes.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Unix has had the &#x3C;code&#x3E;ps&#x3C;/code&#x3E; command for decades, but because Unix has a varied past with contributions from different parties, there are a couple of different &#x3C;em&#x3E;camps&#x3C;/em&#x3E; on &#x3C;code&#x3E;ps&#x3C;/code&#x3E;. It basically boils down to the System V camp and the BSD camp. Fort&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Some cool Perl things...</title>
<link>http://fozzolog.fozzilinymoo.org/tech/2010/11/some_cool_perl_things.html</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the many advantages of having a software developer job where you&#x27;re working in a distributed, collaborative development environment is that you get to look at other people&#x27;s code. What a great way to see examples of coding strategies you&#x27;ve never used before.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;For example, today I saw where someone had used the &#x3C;code&#x3E;part&#x3C;/code&#x3E; subroutine provided by [List::MoreUtils](http://search.cpan.org/perldoc?L&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Battery life
The Epic 4G&#x26;#39;s battery life is significantly better than the Palm Pre. That being said, there are things to watch out for that will quickly suck the life out of the Epic 4G battery:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;ul&#x3E;
&#x3C;li&#x3E;Turning on the 4G radio&#x3C;/li&#x3E;
