Flyin Zion day 2

Day 2 of the Flyin Zion annual Easter Weekend party has come and gone.
As stated in the last Fozzolog, Thom and I left the party after the Sons of Nothing gig Friday night and we went to St. George. We were so hungry we could have eaten at Arbys... so, we did.
After sleeping comfortably in a bed at Aunt Jane's and Uncle Roger's house (in Bloomington Hills), we got out of bed, had some cereal, and met every member of the Jane and Roger family. Being Easter Weekend, every child showed up with their children - some expecting more children this summer - to partake in the familial festivities and soak in the swimming pool.
It was 81 degrees (F) in St. George Saturday afternoon. Our guests mowed their lawn and mentioned it wasn't the first time this year they'd done that. This blew me away because the climate in my hometown at this time of year still requires long sleeves and jackets and the grass is nowhere near a recognizeable shade of green yet.
Needless to say, it was cozy hanging out at Jane and Roger's place during the day while we recovered from the day before and rejuvenated our energy for the evening to come.
As morning became afternoon, we decided to head into St. George. We wandered around while Thom revisited fuzzy memories of trips and extended stays in St. George from his childhood. Eventually, we found a Taco Bell, had some lunch, and then hit the K-Mart for some goods.
We wanted to see if we could catch a film, but of the theaters we went to, either they did not have any matinee showings or their showtimes put us on a schedule which would have meant being late getting back to Flyin Zion.
So, we went back to Jane's and Roger's place, hung out a little while longer, and then got our stuff and left. We grabbed some dinner at Fazolli's before we split town.
We arrived back at the ranch around 18:00 or so. The sun was starting to dip behind the mesas and Thom was anxious to get a band photo with the sunset as a backdrop. However, Tim (guitarist, vocalist, psycho madman) was busy... busy painting a woman.
Upon discovering this side of Tim I had never known about, I ran into a
couple other women at the ranch who had already been "done" by
Tim earlier in the day. I have to say... his work is... spectacular. Quite
a talented boy.
We did eventually get Tim away long enough to get a snapshot of Thom, Tim, and Daryn. It wasn't as nice as the shot I took of Thom Friday night because there were no clouds in the sky, we used a not-so-good location, and the lighting was different. Nonetheless, it turned out to be a pretty decent photo.

There was a play performed before the Sons Of Nothing gig and I went to check it out. Within about ten minutes of the performance, I came to realize the play would have been ten times more entertaining than it was if I had been under the influence of some kind of mind-altering substance. Even alcohol would have helped make me laugh.
As it was, however, I only found the performance mediocre but noted most of the people in the audience were having the time of their lives.
I slipped out of the play a little early to help the band finish setting up and to get ready to help in the booth and videotape the performance.
The performance was not quite as good as Friday night's. This was due to technical problems with the sound system, a looser band, and an altered schedule that forced Thom to cut two songs from the setlist.
The band did play a full-length cut of Echoes which was mind-blowingly good. Wow!
Thom and I got out around 23:30 and headed north. We made it to Thom's place in Salt Lake right around 4:00 awake and intact.
