A week into the new job and life gets crazy

Not a whole lot to report, but I am doing it anyway because I hate to see the Fozzolog go for too long without an update.

Working at Lugh Networks

This last Monday, I started as a consultant at Lugh Networks. I was told I would probably be working on a contract basis until the first of March.

I'm working with a guy named John who doesn't have as much software design and engineering experience as me, but he's put a lot of energy and thought into the project we're working on. He's usually a couple steps ahead of me.

The project is an exciting one, but is chaotic right now because John ahs been the only person working on it for several months. My hope is that bring order to chaos. :)

I worked in Salt Lake City on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but on Wednesday, I was told I couldn't work anymore because the non-disclosure agreements for me hadn't been drafted and would not be drafted until the next Monday.

So I went home.

I wasn't upset about not being able to work because I had a lot of other stuff I could be doing.

Out of nowhere, Iodynamics lifts off

The irony is downright funny. As soon as I start a job in Salt Lake City, Iodynamics starts picking up a lot of business including one contract which could turn into a full-time gig for the company.

This last Tuesday -- my second day on the job at Lugh Networks -- one of our client's NetGateway went down. I was in Salt Lake City so I couldn't make a housecall, so my partner Chadd paid them a visit and reported back to me the machine would not power up. I suspected it was a power supply that had gone bad (this particular machine has been running constantly for over three years). I told Chadd to take the machine to our local hardware supplier and he would replace the power supply.

Chadd did as I instructed and by the end of the day, we had a new power supply in the machine, but it still would not boot. It looked like the power supply failure probably took the motherboard with it by sending out some bad power.

Our client was getting desperate. They relied heavily on both Internet access and e-mail -- services the NetGateway provided. We decided the best thing to do was to build them a new NetGateway and restore their data onto it. I had this up and running at the client's site by 11 A.M. Wednesday morning and it went, pretty much, flawlessly.

Meanwhile, another company has started to talk to us about participating in a major website design/development project which would result in a lot of work for Iodynamics. I'm sure we could do it part-time as all the current Iodynamics partners have full-time jobs during the day. But, if this client wants stuff done sooner, I could quit my job at Lugh and do Iodynamics full-time if I need to.

I don't really have an opinion or preference about that yet because I haven't been working at Lugh long enough and I don't know what kind of longevity this project would have. So, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
