Monday's madness about work and entertainment

A job!

Today... I was offered employment. Pretty cool, eh?

Oh, and I accepted the offer.

So... as of Thursday, 5 July, I will be an employee of TerraStar - a Logan company. Yeah, their website sucks... but that's one reason they hired me.

The Sons rock Burts

John, Tim, and Thom of Sons Of Nothing On Monday (well, tonight, really), I went to see Sons Of Nothing (Hey- I helped design the website!) play at Burts Tiki Bar in Salt Lake City.

This performance was really an audition for the band. That's apparently what goes on at Burts Tiki Bar on Monday nights. It let's them guage new bands by how many people show up. Well, the band had a lot of people show up. It was great.

In addition to playing a lot of Sons Of Nothing originals, the band was talked into (by members of the audience) playing several songs by Pink Floyd including Wish You Were Here, Pigs On The Wing, Us and Them, Brain Damage, and Eclipse. Wow. They also played some Heart and Black Sabbath - just to appease the (very inebbriated) crowd.

I was only planning on staying until midnight, but then two things happened. First, my old buddy Dave showed up! I wasn't sure if he was going to come and when I talked to him on the phone, he didn't seem too optimistic about coming. Then he just showed up. Wow!

Second, the band started taking requests and did a kick-ass job of pleasing the crowd.

So... I ended up staying until 1:00 when the bar closed and they had to stop playing. Thom's band is doing pretty well.

Denny's With Dave

Dave and Doran at Dennys After the Sons Of Nothing show, Dave and I headed to Dennys on 500 South and talked for a long time. We spent some time (probably too much time) talking about Sorenson Media where we both worked (I hired Dave) and were both let go as a result of very screwed up management.

We also talked about music, finances, etc. etc. It was fun.

Shortly before we departed from Denny's, Dave reminded me that we went to that same Denny's nine years ago during the summer at about the same time of the evening/morning (it was almost 3 a.m. when we left).

That was the night he met "Ricky" and I met "Breezy" while we were at Bandaloops playing pool. We paired up and drove around looking for someplace to eat. The Village Inns were closed so we went to that Dennys and had fake key lime pie. Dave remembered that detail which I had forgotten.

Breezy and I had a short relationship which terminated within a few weeks. Ricky and Dave ended up getting married and are currently in the middle of a nasty divorce over really stupid issues.

I don't remember too much about that summer, really. I think I may have blocked a lot of it from my mind.

Oh! Back to the subject of music!

I feel like I get into a rutt when all I do all the time is sit in front of the computer and do website crap. That's fun, but it gets old and I think doing it all the time runs down my creativity. I have other interests which I have not devoted much time to lately because I seem to spend almost all my time computing.

For example, I really want to hone my skills as a musician. In fact, I'd like to get some skills first and then hone them. Heh.

Secondly, I really want to get back into shooting and editing short films again - just for fun.

Now that I have a job, it will be easier to organize my life a little better, I think (and hope).
