Lucy's #1 birthday & upcoming joblessness

Posted: 20 December 2001 at 22:30:00

I’ve been so busy the last couple of weeks! With holidays, birthdays, employment stuff, it’s been a busy December.

Lucy’s Birthday

Today (20 December) is actually my daughter Lucy’s birthday. This year is her first birthday. We celebrated last weekend - to distance it from Christmas a little bit. On Saturday we had my family to our house including my parents, my brother, his kids, my sister, her kids, my friend Dave, and his kids.

It was fun. We had cake and ice cream and Lucy got to open some presents on the floor in the living room. Below are some pictures of that.

The next day - Sunday - we went to Christine’s parents’ house and took part in another birthday celebration. Her family has four birthdays in December evenly spaced between the 12th and the 24th.

Lucy got a Clifford The Big Red Dog doll and a Clifford outfit. It was fun.

Looking for a new job again

My employers at TerraStar have decided to let me go. It’s not the best time of the year (decade?) to be looking for work, but these things happen. I think they just can’t justify paying my salary when they’re not seeing that much sales activity on their website. They’ll keep me around under contract to maintain stuff.

So, I’ve been trying to drum up contract work for Iodynamics. While that has looked promising, I’m concerned that we won’t be able to get enough work to pay my salary - so I’m also looking for a part time job to supplement. If that doesn’t work out, I’m going to be looking for a full time job somewhere- possibly out of state.

I’m not too upset about the possibility of having to move to find work. I have finally finished all my coursework for my bachelor degree in Computer Science - so that is one thing I’m not hanging around Logan, Utah for. I’ve been sending résumés to places like New York and Massachussetts. I kind of doubt many companies are up to relocating people right now, but maybe someone will find my skills to be uniquely qualified to fill their position.
