Celebrating Clothing Storage Independence

Posted: 8 July 2002 at 12:03:18

Another July 4 holiday has come and gone. Ours was somewhat uneventful, but not unenjoyable.

On Thursday (the 4th), we went to the Hyrum Parade with my family and others. It was less hot this year than any other year I can remember. That was good.

That evening, we went to see the film Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron at the discount theater in Logan. The kids really enjoyed that and it was Lucy's first movie in a theater. She did very well.

Saturday (the 6th) we went swimming at the Logan "Aqua Tic" Center. The annual Cruise In car show was going on at the fairgrounds next to the swimming pools so parking was a joke, but we had fun. Maya even asked me to take her down the waterslide, which surprised us. She went down twice with me and once with Christine.

Sunday (the 7th), we went to Brigham City for baby Hayden Max Robinette's blessing and then went to Sarah and Bryce's house for the customary after-blessing feast with the family.

Maya's New Shelves

Over the weekend, I finally built some shelves in Maya's closet. All her clothes are in our dresser and closet upstairs, so this will be nice to get finished so we can move her stuff to her room and free up space in our bedroom for our stuff.

I decided to put shelves up one side and two clothes rods on the other side. If and when she needs to hang longer stuff in there, we can take the bottom rod out. Or, even better, we can make it smaller - say, half the width.

I used my buddy Dave's brad nailer, compressor, and mitre saw to do some of the work. This was the first time I've installed shelves with an air powered brad nailer. In the past I've used a regular hammer and finishing nails.

Man, that brad nailer makes it so much easier... and faster! I doubt I'll ever do a shelving project without it again.

Now, all we need to do is paint the shelves and put some doors on the closet and we'll be done with that project.
