Did something funky tonight with the digital camera. Basking in the light in my office (in which I rarely turn on the ceiling light - I usually just have a 3-way touch desk lamp on which I leave on the lowest brightness setting), I set the camera on this speed shot-like setting where it continues to take photograph after photograph as long as you keep holding the shutter button down. Then, I spun around the room holding the camera above and in front of me.
The effect is pretty cool, I think.
Spending money to save money
As you probably know by this point, I own a digital camera. It's a Canon PowerShot S10 - a 2 megapixel model. I bought it shortly before Christmas 2000. I've been very happy with the purchase with one exception: it didn't come with a rechargeable battery or an AC adapter.
Instead, I've had to use 2CR5 lithium batteries which are about $11 a pop. They last a significantly long time, but I always have to make sure I have at least one extra on hand because they seem to die at the worst times. Plus, it seems to, at least partially, negate the cost-savings of having a digital camera if I'm constantly buying new batteries to put into it.
Last winter, when I was in New York City, I tried to find a camera store in midtown manhattan that would sell me the Canon DK110 - a kit that includes a charger/adapter and a rechargeable battery - for a good price. I'd seen auctions on eBay and online retailers that were selling it for $80-100, but I could not get any of the stores in New York to come anywhere close to that. They just laughed at me when I asked them to go below $100.
Finally, last week, I bid on one which was up for auction on eBay and won the auction at $66. With $7 shipping, I got my battery and charger for $73. The package came in the mail today. I only need to use and recharge the battery about 6 or 7 times and it will have paid for itself. :)
Ghost World
Tonight, Christine and I watched Ghost World which I rented on DVD. I picked it up because I'm a big fan of Thora Birch since I saw her play "Jane" in American Beauty, which has become one of my all-time favorite movies.
Christine seemed to enjoy the film and said it reminded her of some friends she went to high school with.
I enjoyed the film simply because Birch is turning out to be an amazing actress with a wide range of acting skill. Plus, Steve Buscemi is in this film as well and he is always a pleasure for me to watch. He was cast well for "Seymore".
What I didn't know until I watched the featurette packaged on the DVD as a special feature was that the film was based on a comic book by the same title. Pretty cool.
On the cover, it's tempting to think this is a teen movie. Even the verbiage on the back of the box seems to lure you into thinking that. It's not.
