July 2006 Archives

This post is a response to Kenneth Burgener's recent post on UOSP about adding NTFS filesystem support to FC5.

Kenneth said that he read on fedorafaq.org that NTFS support could be added simply by running yum install kmod-ntfs, which he then tried with no success.

I just wanted to point out actually this works very successfully if you've followed the instructions on fedorafaq.org for installing third-party yum repositories into your yum configuration.

The kmod-ntfs RPM is hosted by the LIVNA repository. This repository does an excellent job of keeping these kernel-module packages up-to-date with the latest kernels released by the Fedora project. Make sure you do a yum update after you've installed the third-party repositories, to get the latest kernel modules and what-not, before you go adding some of these third-party kernel module RPMs.
